Our drill range includes drilling tools made of HSS, HSS-E, solid carbide and with carbide plate in various diameters and lengths.
For classical drilling on older or less stable machines, we offer an extensive range of drills made of HSS and HSS-E. In addition to our classic ALTAIS and CUTINOX drills, both according to DIN 338, our range also includes many other special drilling tools: miniature drills from Ø0.1mm increasing by 1/100, mini precision drills (Ø0.8-2.45) for difficult and unstable drilling conditions, high performance drills with ZX flat spiral and extra long twist drills with deep hole spiral for drilling up to 450mm depth.
Our drills with carbide tips are particularly suitable for drilling hard materials under adverse conditions. With the special tip geometry of 90°, we also have an efficient and cost-effective solution for drilling fibre plastics (GFRP and CFRP).
The solid carbide range extends from the classic carbide drills (DIN 1897 and DIN 338) to high-performance drills for steels, stainless steels, aluminium and our SIRIUS HPC drills for special alloys or titanium. Our range is supplemented by drill-reamers and special drills for fibre plastics (GFRP, CFRP, AFRP), in particular for applications in aircraft construction or wind power plant construction.
The SPPW drill range is complemented by our new family of miniature drills. These micro drills are made of finest grain carbide. The drills are available from a diameter of 0.1 mm, for various drilling depths (3xD, 5xD, 8xD, 12xD and 15xD), whereby some of the drills are available at 1/100 increments (e.g. diameter 1.43 mm).
Drilling tools for reliable machining of CFRP/GFRP from SPPW
With special twist drills, reamers and high-performance cooling channel drills for fibres, Spanabhebende Präzisionswerkzeuge GmbH offers the right tool for every type of fibre.
Depending on the field of application and the desired properties, modern plastics are reinforced with carbon or glass fibres, which can be unidirectional, interwoven or interlaced or multidirectional. SPPW has developed the optimal drilling tool for drilling such fibre-reinforced materials and the various fibre types and proportions.
"Depending on the fiber type, delamination, fiber breakage, fiber overhang and unclean surfaces occur. Avoiding burr formation is also very important," explains Ulrich Schäfer, Sales Manager at SPPW, and mentions the difficulties involved in machining CFRP/GFRP. "The aim of our new drilling tools is to counteract these effects and achieve fast and clean machining.
In addition to CFRP/GFRP, fibre-plastic-metal composites pose a particular challenge, since the drilling tool must be able to machine several materials with very different chip behavior.
In particular, the pressing of metal residues into the fibrous material must be avoided when drilling metal CFRP composites. SPPW has developed a special drilling tool for drilling holes in such metal-fiber hybrid materials that meets all requirements as a single-shot drill.
In addition to spiral drills with sickle point or point geometries with angles smaller than 100 degrees, reamers are also a good alternative. They distribute the cutting forces optimally during drilling and guarantee delamination-free entry and exit of the bore as well as a special surface quality.
High-performance cooling channel drills with several cutting guide chamfers are particularly suitable for the efficient production of high-precision drill holes without delamination and fiber overhang. They can be supplied in various versions and as special drills with deburring function.
The range of drilling tools takes into account the different machining environments. SPPW offers drills for efficient machining on CNC machining centres, for robot machining and also for manual machining, as found in aircraft construction for large structural components.
Twist drills for stainless steel machining - more accurate, faster, more productive
The Twist Drill "Cutinox", from the product range of Spanabhebende Präzisionswerkzeuge GmbH, covers the increased requirements for drilling tools in stainless steel machining.
The combination of an optimized 4-facet point grinding and a new HSS-cobalt alloy enables a high geometric stability as well as an even wear with optimized chip breaking. This results in better cutting conditions in order to avoid winding chips caused by high cutting speeds and cutting forces.
During the machining of stainless steels, heat is only released slowly, so that the drill wears faster due to the high thermal load. The stronger drill tip counteracts this and also places less stress on the cutting edges.
To process abrasive materials, the twist drill is used with a multi-layer coating (TiAlN-TiCN). This enables a longer tool life and improved properties of the tool.
The "Cutinox" achieves a longer service life and higher productivity as well as higher drilling accuracy for easier drilling in a wider range of applications (steels - Inox - special alloys). In addition, it has been awarded an absolutely fair price.
In addition to this twist drill, SPPW offers many practical, innovative tools in a new complete catalogue with an informative technical section, as well as an extensive procurement programme with standard, semi-standard and special tools.
